Maintenance includes applying herbicide in spring for winter weeds, mowing 2-3 times a year (optional), and occasional watering during dry spells if you prefer a lush appearance. Overall, Ecoturf requires minimal upkeep compared to traditional grasses.
Ecoturf is slow-growing, which reduces long-term maintenance but takes time to establish. It can take up to 6 years to develop a strong root system for harvesting, making it pricier initially. The investment pays off in about three years through significant savings.
The best time to plant Ecoturf is between March and September, ideally at least 90 days before frost to allow proper root establishment. Planting during deep winter may slow down spring growth.

Ecoturf is a hardy, rhizomatous variety that grows slowly but withstands foot traffic and thrives in full sun. Golden Glory grows faster but is less hardy, more suited for shaded or wet areas, and can be invasive due to its stoloniferous nature.
Ecoturf sod is sold in 200 square foot rolls, each weighing around 2000 lbs. Due to its weight and size, equipment like a bobcat or skid steer with a sod-roll attachment is recommended for unloading and installation.
For areas smaller than 1000 square feet, consider using container plants instead of sod rolls for easier handling and installation. Be sure to specify whether you need Ecoturf for sunny areas or Golden Glory for shaded or wet areas when ordering.
